About the Role

Position Overview

This role supports the accuracy and reliability of financial operations within a public service organization. As an Accountant 2, you will serve as a technical resource on accounting practices, internal controls, and regulatory compliance, ensuring financial data remains accurate, secure, and transparent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert on accounting procedures, including ledger maintenance, reconciliation, financial reporting, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Review and reconcile complex financial accounts, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to uphold data integrity.
  • Apply accounting standards and interpret policies to ensure all transactions meet legal and procedural requirements.
  • Support the development and refinement of accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency and adapt to evolving organizational needs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to complete financial assignments on schedule and provide guidance on proper fiscal practices.
  • Propose improvements to accounting workflows, leveraging technology to streamline reporting and increase operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following combinations:

  • Hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) credential with two years of experience in setting up ledgers, account codes, and internal controls;
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with at least 32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours in accounting, plus two years of relevant experience;
  • Or possess the same credit hours in accounting and four years of professional experience involving financial analysis, reconciliation, system modifications, financial reporting, and regulatory interpretation.

All applicants must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and maintain a valid driver’s license from Oregon or Washington, subject to periodic Motor Vehicle Record reviews.

This position operates under a hybrid model, allowing work from home and in-office presence based on operational needs. Employees receive necessary equipment—including laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and mobile device—to support remote work.

Compensation & Benefits

Monthly salary ranges from $5,458 to $8,352. PERS-qualifying positions include an additional 6.95% (6% to retirement, 0.95% payroll taxes). Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, paid leave, 11 annual holidays, PERS membership, potential eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and personal leave accruals.
