As the AI Lead Engineer, you will pioneer the development of an AI Center of Competence from inception, establishing the foundation for intelligent engineering solutions across a global industrial organization. This role blends deep technical proficiency with strategic influence, requiring direct engagement with engineering, IT, and leadership teams to identify high-value use cases and deploy practical AI applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the vision, governance, operating model, and technical standards for enterprise-wide AI adoption, ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and scalability requirements
- Forge strong collaborations with cybersecurity, legal, and IT functions to enable trusted deployment of AI systems
- Deliver measurable improvements in engineering efficiency within the first year by launching 2–3 targeted AI pilots—such as automated documentation, design knowledge retrieval, or code generation—directly reducing cycle times and enhancing quality
- Work side-by-side with civil, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to understand workflows, tools (including PLM, CAD, ERP), and operational constraints, translating real-world challenges into deployable AI solutions
- Develop robust, AI-ready data foundations by advancing data ownership models, metadata standards, lineage tracking, and access controls—enabling future capabilities like knowledge graphs and intelligent agents
- Serve as a technical advisor to engineering leadership, clearly communicating opportunities, risks, and return on investment while leading prototyping and early deployment efforts
- Shape the long-term roadmap for AI in engineering, including AI-assisted design validation, engineering copilots, and cross-disciplinary knowledge systems
Required Qualifications
- Proven track record in designing, building, and deploying AI and machine learning systems in large-scale enterprise environments, with strong expertise in Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and document intelligence
- Experience with full-cycle AI development, including data pipeline design, model training, MLOps, and cloud-based deployment
- Familiarity with industrial engineering domains such as power systems, automation, controls, or similar complex technical environments
- Hands-on knowledge of enterprise systems including PLM, ERP, CAD/CAE, requirements management, and document management platforms
- Ability to lead without formal authority, translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and driving adoption across diverse teams
- Entrepreneurial drive with a demonstrated ability to launch new initiatives in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments
