About the Role

Engine by Starling is looking for an Android Engineer to join our scaling team. You'll contribute directly to our award-winning Android application and internal tools, building new features and products from scratch in a configurable way. You'll own your projects and work collaboratively to deliver banking solutions worldwide.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to our award-winning Android app and internal tooling.
  • Build new features and products from scratch in a configurable way.
  • Share your knowledge with those around you, contributing to our learning culture.
  • Own your projects, working in small teams across the bank to collaboratively deliver.
  • Aim for greatness in everything you do, staying curious and inquisitive.
  • Be part of a scaling team and organisation as we change banking for good.
  • Commit, review and ship new code right from the first week.
  • Work closely with other Android engineers to improve and develop our Android app, CI automations and tooling.
  • Understand and prioritise security when implementing new features, fixing bugs or making technical improvements.
  • Focus on Accessibility along with writing clean and maintainable code.
  • Deliver stable, resilient and high quality code.
  • Write UI/E2E Tests with Espresso and Unit Tests with JUnit.
  • Work closely with QA engineers on complex feature delivery.

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to understand and prioritise security across all layers.
  • Focus on Accessibility.
  • Ability to write clean and maintainable code.
  • Experience with testing (Espresso for UI/E2E, JUnit for Unit Tests).
  • Good understanding of a wide range of libraries and technologies.
  • Self-driven individual able to take full ownership.

Nice to Have

  • Experience maintaining a library, contributing to OSS, or dealing with Internationalisation.

Team & Environment

You will report to and catch-up regularly with a Mobile Lead Engineer. The culture is strongly collaborative and open, with support available from outside your immediate team.
