Shape the future of AI-driven support in emerging markets. As an Applied AI Scientist focused on LLMs and Voice, you'll play a central role in developing autonomous agents that serve millions of users each month. Your work will directly address complex, real-world constraints—such as intermittent internet access, low literacy rates, and languages with limited digital resources—by building robust, production-grade AI systems.
What You’ll Do
- Design, test, and deploy AI models and agent architectures that power voice and digital support experiences at scale.
- Optimize systems for challenging environments, ensuring performance even under poor connectivity or with minimal training data.
- Integrate and evaluate cutting-edge models in speech and language, translating research advances into reliable product improvements.
- Own problems from initial discovery through to deployment, collaborating closely with engineering and product teams to deliver measurable customer impact.
- Operationalize LLM techniques including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning, and agent orchestration.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning or AI engineering.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with backend systems.
- Firm understanding of statistical modeling and ML fundamentals.
- Proven track record of moving models from prototype to production, with attention to performance, scalability, and correctness.
- Experience building with large language models and autonomous agents.
- Comfort working in low-resource language environments and optimizing real-time voice systems (ASR/TTS, streaming, latency).
- Fluency in English; bilingual French speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.
Technology & Environment
Our stack includes Python 3 (with mypy), GraphQL, Kotlin/Jetpack, Swift/SwiftUI, TypeScript/React, Postgres, CockroachDB, GCP, Terraform, and Kubernetes. We value simplicity, maintainability, and fast iteration—preferring reliable tools that scale safely over novelty.
Work & Culture
This is a fully remote role open to candidates in the US, Canada, UK, Spain, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. Team members are expected to visit operational markets at least once per year. We prioritize solving meaningful problems, moving quickly with small iterations, and shipping solutions that improve real user outcomes. If you’re driven by impact, thrive in ambiguity, and care about building systems that work where they’re needed most, this role is for you.
