Role Overview
This position leads the architecture, deployment, and ongoing management of an enterprise-wide Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform. As a technical authority, you will resolve advanced system performance challenges and ensure seamless integration across cloud services and on-premises environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable virtual desktop infrastructure across complex, multi-stakeholder production environments
- Act as the primary escalation point for Tier 3/4 support issues related to AVD and associated technologies
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks affecting virtual desktops and user experience
- Guide system administrators on best practices for optimization and interoperability
- Support endpoint configurations and troubleshoot virtual desktop access and connectivity
- Ensure compliance with security standards including STIG implementation and policy enforcement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AVD with identity, security, and productivity platforms
- Evaluate technical solutions and contribute to strategic decisions on tooling and architecture
Required Qualifications
- Must be eligible to obtain DoD Security Clearance and DHS Entry On Duty authorization
- Master’s degree plus 7 years of relevant experience, or 16 years of professional experience in cloud and virtualization systems
- Proven experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Networking, Storage, and Virtual Desktops
- Strong background in Windows Server administration and configuration
- Hands-on work with Azure AD, Intune, FSLogix, and VDI profile management
- Experience securing endpoints and applying security policies such as STIGs
- Familiarity with AVD integration into Office 365 ecosystems
- Proficiency in desktop software provisioning and support frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team settings while driving independent initiatives
Preferred Experience
- One or more years working with MS SQL, Puppet, Chef, Qualys, SCCM, or MDM platforms
- Experience configuring IIS and SQL Server in cloud or hybrid environments
- At least two years using Azure security tools, including Sentinel, for monitoring and threat detection
Technical Environment
Core technologies include Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Networking, Azure Storage, Windows Server, Azure AD, Intune, FSLogix, VDI profile management, endpoint protection tools, STIGs, Office 365, and desktop provisioning systems. Additional exposure to MS SQL, Puppet, Chef, Qualys, SCCM, IIS, SQL Server, and Azure Security tools including Sentinel is beneficial.
