As a Cloud Engineer in Platform Engineering, you will drive developer velocity by designing and maintaining self-service infrastructure platforms on AWS. You'll work directly within development squads, acting as their go-to expert for cloud infrastructure and enabling teams to independently manage resources through automated, secure, and scalable systems.
What You’ll Do
- Design and maintain modular Terraform code that standardizes infrastructure patterns across thousands of EKS workloads
- Implement GitOps workflows using ArgoCD and Helm to automate deployments and improve deployment reliability
- Build developer-centric abstractions that simplify access to AWS services like EKS, RDS, Aurora, and S3
- Develop automation tools in Python and Bash to eliminate repetitive operational tasks
- Integrate AI-powered coding assistants into infrastructure development to accelerate module creation, reviews, and documentation
- Establish CI/CD pipelines that allow developers to safely deploy and manage infrastructure changes
- Collaborate with developers to shape cloud-native architectures optimized for scalability and resilience on AWS
- Design observability solutions using logging, monitoring, and alerting tools to give teams clear insight into their systems
- Partner with security and architecture teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with best practices and compliance standards
- Continuously refine platform capabilities to improve speed, reliability, and developer experience
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud, platform engineering, or DevOps roles with production AWS environments
- Proven expertise in Kubernetes, specifically managing EKS clusters in large-scale settings
- Deep proficiency with Terraform, including modular design, state management, and reusable module libraries
- Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or FluxCD for automated, declarative infrastructure management
- Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash for building automation and internal tooling
- Familiarity with Helm for packaging and deploying Kubernetes applications
- Solid understanding of AWS services including VPC, IAM, Security Groups, S3, and relational database services
- Experience using AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor in infrastructure development
- Background in Linux administration and CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitLab CI
- Ability to communicate effectively with developers and translate infrastructure concepts into practical solutions
- Track record of reducing operational toil through automation and self-service design
Preferred Background
- Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure tools
- Knowledge of AWS Well-Architected Framework principles
- Exposure to observability stacks such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana
- Experience with messaging systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AmazonMQ
- Incident response and root cause analysis in distributed systems
- Prior role as an embedded infrastructure engineer within agile development teams
Work Environment
This role supports hybrid or remote work, with a preference for Utah-based candidates. The team operates in an Agile environment with a strong focus on automation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll be measured by the impact of your platforms—how well they reduce toil, increase deployment speed, and empower developers to innovate independently.
