Pima County Government is hiring a Database Administrator I - Information Technology

About the Role

This position supports the Information Technology Department by managing and maintaining critical database systems. The Database Administrator I ensures reliable performance, data consistency, and secure access across enterprise platforms. You will work collaboratively within a technical team to support essential government services through effective data management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, tune, and troubleshoot database performance to maintain system efficiency
  • Preserve data accuracy and enforce security protocols across all database environments
  • Support the deployment and configuration of Database Management Systems, including patches and upgrades
  • Develop and maintain SQL scripts for data manipulation and structural changes
  • Assist in implementing and administering cloud and on-site platforms such as SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, Agave, and Team Foundation Server
  • Document database designs, processes, and configurations
  • Collaborate with IT teams on system integrations, application rollouts, and infrastructure improvements
  • Apply PowerShell or similar scripting tools to automate administrative tasks

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required, along with three years of hands-on database administration experience. Alternatively, two years of relevant work within Pima County may satisfy the requirement. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in SQL, MS SQL Server, and scripting, with a solid understanding of database security and performance optimization.

A valid driver license is required at time of application, and an Arizona license must be obtained prior to appointment. The selected candidate will undergo a 39-month DOT motor vehicle review and comprehensive background checks, including verification of employment history, education, and criminal record.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in Tucson, AZ, with no remote option. Some after-hours and weekend work may be necessary during system updates or deployments. The position operates within a professional, inclusive, and continuously improving workplace culture committed to equity and public service.
