Role Overview
This position leads the operational health and performance of enterprise-grade database platforms, with deep ownership across SQL and NoSQL systems. You will ensure databases are scalable, secure, and highly available, working closely with engineering teams to support mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full lifecycle performance of PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, and related managed services across development, staging, and production environments
- Optimize query execution through indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and configuration tuning tailored to each database engine
- Implement load testing and performance validation in CI/CD pipelines to catch regressions before deployment
- Collaborate with application teams on data modeling, schema design, and access pattern efficiency for relational and document-based workloads
- Design and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant database architectures with robust replication, failover, backup, and recovery mechanisms
- Define and monitor service-level indicators and objectives for latency, error rates, replication lag, and storage trends
- Develop comprehensive observability solutions, including dashboards, alerts, and runbooks for incident response
- Lead post-mortem analyses and contribute to resolution of critical database incidents
- Enforce security standards including role-based access, encryption at rest and in transit, secret management, and secure authentication flows
- Automate provisioning and configuration management using Terraform and GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Standardize operational practices such as schema migrations, configuration baselines, and compliance controls across database platforms
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing production databases at scale, with strong troubleshooting abilities under pressure
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted database services such as AWS RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, and DynamoDB
- Deep technical knowledge in performance tuning, indexing, vacuum processes, data modeling, backup and restore procedures, and capacity planning
- Experience implementing monitoring, alerting, and metrics collection for database platforms
- Automation-focused approach with hands-on work in Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD systems, and operational scripting
- Understanding of IAM policies, key management, secrets handling, and compliance frameworks
- Track record building and maintaining reusable Terraform modules
- Strong command of Linux systems and scripting in Bash or Python
- Experience running database-related workloads in Docker and Kubernetes environments
