Role Overview
As a FinOps & Cloud Cost Engineer, you will shape how we manage and optimize cloud spending across a rapidly scaling infrastructure. You'll operate at the intersection of engineering, finance, and operations, ensuring that every dollar spent on AWS delivers measurable value. Your work will directly influence architectural decisions, cost governance, and financial accountability across distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive cost optimization strategy for AWS, targeting EC2, ECS, Aurora, and other core services.
- Enforce consistent tagging practices to enable accurate cost tracking by product, team, region, and business unit.
- Optimize resource usage in Kafka, OpenSearch, and network configurations to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Automate cost controls, including scheduled shutdowns for non-production environments and proactive budget enforcement.
- Set up anomaly detection and alerting systems to identify unexpected spending patterns in real time.
- Create interactive dashboards using AWS Cost Explorer, Athena, or QuickSight to provide actionable insights for leadership and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with developers to guide cost-aware design choices in new and existing systems.
- Establish cloud financial policies using Infrastructure as Code and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines via GitHub.
What You Bring
- Fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate technical and financial concepts clearly.
- At least four years of hands-on experience managing AWS production environments with a focus on cost efficiency.
- Deep familiarity with core AWS services including EC2, EBS, RDS, S3, EKS, Lambda, and CloudFront.
- Proven expertise in AWS Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and managing multi-account structures through AWS Organizations.
- Experience applying FinOps principles and building cost models that align with business goals.
- Proficiency with Terraform for managing infrastructure as code.
- Ability to extract and analyze cost data using SQL, Athena, or Python.
- Interest in leveraging AI-driven tools to automate cost monitoring and detect spending trends.
- Resilience and adaptability in a fast-moving, evolving technical landscape.
Nice to Have
- AWS certification in Solutions Architect, DevOps, or Advanced Networking.
- Background working in regulated industries, particularly with PCI or SOC2 compliance.
- Experience with cloud cost platforms such as CloudHealth or CloudCheckr, or deep use of native AWS tools.
- Basic Portuguese skills or a willingness to develop them.
- A sense of humor that matches our team culture.
Environment & Work Model
This is a fully remote role with a distributed team across the Americas. We operate in a high-velocity environment that values ownership, clarity, and measurable impact. Career growth is accelerated through responsibility and results, not tenure. You’ll join a focused, committed group that values both technical rigor and collaborative problem-solving.
