YMCA of Southwest Florida was looking for a Group Leader

The YMCA OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA is hiring a Group Leader to ensure the safety, well-being, and positive development of children in our Before/After School Program and Summer Camp. Under the supervision of the Program Director and Site Coordinator, you will provide direct care and supervision to all enrolled participants.

What You'll Do

  • Execute high quality, age-appropriate activities for enrolled participants.
  • Actively encourage participation in all activities to ensure growth and development.
  • Maintain responsibility for the physical safety of participants at all times, including understanding and implementing emergency procedures.
  • Monitor the program area constantly to ensure physical safety and make immediate changes as necessary.
  • Release participants only to authorized persons (must ask for ID).
  • Ensure the childcare facility is neat, orderly, and free of all safety impediments.
  • Develop and foster interpersonal relationships between participants and caregiver/families; proactively create a positive, welcoming environment.
  • Actively listen to all participants and show patience, understanding, and respect.
  • Actively protect the emotional safety of all participants and encourage development of social skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Create an environment where participants are free to be themselves.
  • Maintain open channels of communication with caregivers, seeking to build a trusting and cooperative relationship with families.
  • Establish structure and routines for participants by setting boundaries and behavior guidelines.
  • Exemplify appropriate behavior and act as a role model for participants.
  • Orient, instruct, and guide participants through the program guidelines; discipline participants within established guidelines.
  • Document attendance, absenteeism, and incidents for each child in compliance with state/county/district requirements.
  • Immediately report all unusual incidents or accidents to the Program Director and fill out all applicable reports.
  • Appear clean, neat, and appropriately attired in accordance with the Association’s Policy on personal appearance.
  • Adhere to all YMCA and DCF policies.
  • Set measurable goals and evaluate achievement of goals.
  • Report to work at the scheduled time and work as scheduled.
  • Complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or be over the age of 18.
  • Ability to successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements and meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
  • Prior experience working with children.
  • Able to adhere to a drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Note: Employment is contingent upon completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to the Program Director and Site Coordinator.
