Perch is hiring a Lead QA Automation Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the QA strategy in alignment with engineering leadership.
  • Establish clear quality benchmarks including entry and exit criteria, test coverage, and release readiness indicators.
  • Implement consistent QA reporting practices across all delivery teams.
  • Focus test coverage on high-risk areas, prioritizing critical business functionality.
  • Develop, manage, and sustain automated regression testing for web applications and backend services.
  • Select and govern test automation tools, setting standards that ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Ensure automated test suites run continuously with every code change and deliver reliable results.
  • Supervise, coach, and grow a team of QA engineers.
  • Be accountable for overall quality performance, including defect escape rates, test coverage, and confidence at release.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product teams throughout the development lifecycle, integrated within delivery squads.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years in quality assurance or test engineering roles, with at least 5 years leading test automation initiatives beyond manual testing.
  • Proven experience owning quality outcomes and guiding other QA engineers through mentorship or management.
  • History of defining testing strategies and standards adopted across an organization.
  • Demonstrated success building automated regression test suites from scratch and maintaining their effectiveness over time.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with code-based (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) or low-code (e.g., Ghost Inspector, Testim, Katalon, mabl) automation platforms.
  • Ability to read, write, and debug test scripts with comfort in coding, without requiring formal software engineering background.
  • Located in Canada and authorized to work remotely, with prior success in fully remote work environments.

Nice to Have

  • Background in fintech, financial services, or other regulated industries with high-stakes quality requirements.
  • Experience in formal people management, including performance reviews and career development discussions.
  • Track record of establishing QA practices in organizations where minimal testing infrastructure existed.
  • Familiarity with performance or load testing, cross-browser testing platforms, or AI-enhanced testing tools.
