Oklo Inc. is hiring an Operations Engineer

About the Role

As an Operations Engineer, you will lead the development and execution of concepts of operations (ConOps) for next-generation nuclear reactors. Your work will define how systems are operated, monitored, and maintained across all phases, ensuring alignment with design objectives, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine ConOps in partnership with system designers and engineering leads to support all operational states.
  • Drive the creation of operations programs and procedures that uphold safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead or support initiatives such as conduct of operations, maintenance planning, and procedure lifecycle management.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, systems integration, and safety teams to integrate operational needs into system design.
  • Identify operational gaps and lead coordinated efforts to resolve them through structured planning.
  • Support internal and regulatory readiness reviews, contributing technical insights and documentation.
  • Produce and maintain design records for ConOps and operational frameworks, tailored for both internal use and licensing submissions.
  • Engage with vendors and external partners to ensure operational requirements are clearly communicated and incorporated early in development.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, systems engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline. Prior experience in operations program development within nuclear or other highly regulated industrial environments is required.

Familiarity with industry frameworks such as INPO/NEI guidelines, NRC regulations, or DOE standards is essential. Experience in configuration management, procedural design, or licensing documentation is highly valued.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid model, based in Santa Clara, CA. New hires must be on-site for the first two weeks of onboarding. Remote team members are expected to visit headquarters twice per quarter. The position supports flexible work hours and offers remote collaboration opportunities within established operational needs.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $160,000, with additional equity offered. Benefits include a 401k plan, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, flexible time off, and adaptable work scheduling.

Company Values

The team values collaboration, humility, and ownership. You’ll work in an environment that encourages diverse perspectives, active listening, and transparent communication. Team members are expected to act with integrity, take initiative, and see projects through with accountability. Innovation is central—approaching complex challenges with curiosity and resilience is part of the everyday culture.

Eligibility for employment includes passing a drug screening. Due to export control regulations, only individuals who meet the definition of a U.S. person are eligible for this role.
