Join a globally distributed team as a Remote Database Administrator focused on supporting a cloud-native database platform. In this role, you'll deliver high-level database administration services to customers across different regions, ensuring reliability, performance, and adherence to best practices. Your responsibilities will include remote system monitoring, performance analysis, query optimization, and conducting regular health assessments of customer environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver remote DBA support to clients operating in diverse cloud infrastructures
- Automate routine administrative tasks to improve efficiency and consistency
- Configure and maintain monitoring systems on customer databases
- Generate periodic reports on system health and performance metrics
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop internal tools and platform improvements
- Contribute to community engagement through technical writing and knowledge sharing
- Support the evolution of team methodologies and operational standards
- Participate in on-call rotations to meet service level commitments
- Cover scheduled shifts, preferably Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs, to support global operations
- Travel occasionally for in-person team gatherings or technical workshops
What You Bring
- Proven experience with MariaDB or MySQL, including query optimization and database architecture
- Strong command of SQL and experience writing efficient, scalable queries
- Familiarity with high availability configurations and failover strategies
- Expertise in database backup and recovery tools such as mydumper, Xtrabackup, and mysqldump
- Scripting proficiency in Bash, Python, or Go for automation tasks
- System administration experience on Linux or Windows platforms
- Background in 24×7 support operations with clear communication under pressure
- Excellent written English skills and customer-focused mindset
- Experience working independently in remote, asynchronous environments
Preferred Background
- Exposure to additional database technologies such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or MongoDB
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and virtualization technologies
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of MariaDB ecosystem tools including MaxScale, Galera, and ColumnStore
- Contributions to open source projects related to database systems
- Industry certifications in MariaDB, MySQL, or equivalent technologies
Work Environment
This is a fully remote position with equipment provided. The team operates across time zones with rotating coverage to maintain 24×7 service availability. You’ll work autonomously in a self-driven culture that values problem solving, continuous learning, and automation. Collaboration happens through digital channels, and international travel may be required for team meetings.
