Role Overview
We are seeking Researchers and Senior Researchers to drive independent, forward-looking research on artificial intelligence. You will lead efforts to map the evolving landscape of AI development, from hardware infrastructure to model performance, and contribute to foundational insights about the field’s trajectory.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and initiate research projects focused on critical questions in AI, including compute trends, datacenter expansion, supply chains, and corporate growth.
- Produce rigorous analyses and forecasts on key variables such as computational capacity, power demands, and future model capabilities.
- Design, implement, and interpret AI benchmarks to evaluate model performance and validate technical claims.
- Develop and maintain structured datasets that support long-term research goals.
- Write clear, evidence-based reports and articles that communicate findings to technical and strategic audiences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate evaluation results into broader research outputs.
- Assess the credibility of published claims around training costs, benchmark results, and algorithmic advances.
- Propose and prototype new evaluation frameworks to keep pace with rapid innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to quickly master complex topics across technical and socioeconomic domains.
- Strong quantitative reasoning skills, including experience with statistical methods like regression, bootstrapping, and uncertainty modeling.
- Proficiency in coding for data analysis and automation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Familiarity with current AI research and development trends.
- For Data and Trends roles: experience in data analysis with attention to uncertainty and inference.
- For Insights roles: background in one or more areas of the AI pipeline—hardware, datacenters, training, or evaluation.
- For Benchmarking roles: prior work in technical or quantitative research.
Preferred Backgrounds
- Data and Trends Researchers: experience in GPU design, geospatial analysis, forecasting, AI governance, or survey research.
- Benchmarking Researchers: hands-on familiarity with AI evaluation tools and coding for benchmark development.
Work Environment
This is a fully remote position with flexible scheduling. Candidates should be located between Pacific Time and Central European Time and be available for regular overlap with UTC–8. Occasional travel is expected for three annual team retreats.
