The Austin Centers for Exceptional Students is hiring a School Psychologist – Admissions, Placement, and Program Consultation- East Valley

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate referral documents such as IEPs, MET reports, REDs, behavioral data, functional assessments, and academic records.
  • Interpret assessment results to guide school districts in identifying suitable educational services and placements.
  • Assess students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional profiles to determine fit for programs.
  • Recommend appropriate program placements within the organization based on individual student needs.
  • Share placement decisions and required supports with school districts, charter schools, families, and internal staff.
  • Conduct on-site observations of students to evaluate educational, behavioral, and functional performance.
  • Produce written and verbal summaries detailing observations, findings, and suggested actions.
  • Use behavioral and academic data to inform placement choices and evaluate program outcomes.
  • Take part in intake, admissions, and transition planning meetings for students.
  • Offer campus tours and program explanations to families, districts, and community collaborators.
  • Act as an expert on IDEA, Section 504, state special education rules, and evidence-based practices for students with disabilities.
  • Advise leadership, district staff, and educational teams on eligibility, evaluations, IEP development, behavior strategies, and instruction.
  • Support district partners in training and guiding new special education staff and school psychologists.
  • Review student files to confirm alignment between needs, services, supports, and proposed placements.
  • Help teams understand compliance standards and proper implementation of special education programs.
  • Build and sustain cooperative relationships with referring school districts and charter schools.
  • Serve as the main contact for inquiries about referrals, admissions, placements, and program consultation.
  • Work with district representatives to support smooth student transitions into and out of programs.
  • Attend meetings with district and IEP teams to discuss student programming and placement requirements.
  • Maintain regular communication with partner districts to foster collaboration and student success.
  • Consult with families on student needs, available supports, and educational options.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, teachers, behavior specialists, and service providers to promote student achievement.
  • Lead problem-solving discussions and collaborative planning for students with complex needs.
  • Join IEP, MET, manifestation determination, and other student support meetings as needed.
  • Stay informed about federal and state special education laws, regulations, and evolving best practices.

  • Ability to travel between campuses and partner school districts.
  • Ability to conduct campus visits, observations, meetings, and program tours.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment for extended durations.
  • Work Environment: school, office, and community settings with regular interaction with students, families, educators, district representatives, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and applicable laws.
