Freenome is hiring a Senior Computational Biologist I

About the Role

Lead the design and execution of computational and experimental strategies for blood-based cancer detection technologies. This role focuses on developing multiomics assays that leverage cell-free DNA and next-generation sequencing to enable early cancer identification through noninvasive methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement analysis frameworks for Development, Verification, and Validation studies in alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with biostatistics, pre-analytics, and laboratory teams to refine sample processing and detection methodologies.
  • Apply advanced statistical techniques—including generalized linear models, hypothesis testing, and simulation—to interpret high-throughput genomic data.
  • Develop and optimize computational pipelines using R (tidyverse) or Python (Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib), ensuring reproducibility through version control.
  • Support regulatory submissions by generating robust, interpretable results within a quality-managed environment.
  • Translate complex biological data into actionable insights for cross-disciplinary teams, including molecular scientists and regulatory specialists.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree in a quantitative bioscience such as computational biology, bioinformatics, or statistics, with at least three years of industry experience. Proficiency in NGS technologies—including WGS, RNA-seq, bisulfite sequencing, and UMI-based capture—is required. Demonstrated experience in experimental design, data visualization, and statistical analysis is essential.

Experience with diagnostic device development under PMA, 510(k), or CE-IVD regulations is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a proven ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional settings, communicating technical findings clearly to both scientific and non-specialist audiences.

Work Environment

This position supports hybrid work arrangements, with 2–3 days per week onsite in Brisbane, CA, or full remote eligibility. The role operates within a highly collaborative culture focused on innovation, precision, and equitable access in cancer diagnostics.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $161,925 – $227,325 (US)
  • Eligibility for equity and performance-based cash bonuses
  • Comprehensive medical, financial, and family leave benefits
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity employment
