Role Overview
This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of core transport and IP network systems that power regional and central office connectivity. The engineer will focus on building resilient, high-capacity infrastructure with an emphasis on fiber expansion, optical transport, and scalable routing architectures.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and deploy core network infrastructure, including backbone routing, aggregation layers, and optical transport platforms.
- Create and maintain comprehensive engineering records such as network schematics, circuit layouts, routing policies, and configuration standards.
- Plan and allocate transport and Ethernet circuits, managing channel assignments and bandwidth distribution across the network core.
- Support installation and integration of routers, optical systems, and transport hardware in central office and network facilities.
- Coordinate with planning, OLT, and field teams to align network designs with deployment timelines and operational needs.
- Conduct capacity forecasting, traffic modeling, and redundancy analysis to ensure network scalability and uptime.
- Ensure all designs meet internal standards, vendor guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical oversight during equipment commissioning, circuit activation, and system testing phases.
- Diagnose and resolve advanced issues impacting transport links, routing stability, or backbone performance.
- Evaluate vendor solutions and assess compatibility, architecture fit, and integration requirements.
- Lead initiatives to modernize network infrastructure, including router refreshes, optical layer expansion, and resilience upgrades.
- Assist project leads and deployment teams by tracking engineering milestones and resolving technical roadblocks.
- Perform regular network assessments and design reviews to verify compliance, efficiency, and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to integrate network components into the broader service delivery framework.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Networking, or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent experience. A minimum of five years in telecommunications, core network, or transport engineering is required.
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on work with core router deployments and optical transport networks.
- Knowledge of central office environments and fiber-based backbone systems.
- Experience using network monitoring and alarm management tools.
- Familiarity with high-availability design, redundancy strategies, and traffic engineering principles.
Technology Environment
