Jensen Hughes is hiring a Senior Fire Protection Engineer

About the Role

Lead fire protection engineering initiatives across a diverse portfolio of projects, focusing on building and fire code analysis, system design, and performance-based solutions. This role supports clients throughout the U.S. South Region with flexible work options—office-based, hybrid, or remote—depending on experience and project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage fire protection design and consulting assignments from concept through completion, ensuring alignment with client goals, schedules, and budgets.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of building and fire codes, including plan examinations and field assessments, to verify compliance and identify necessary improvements.
  • Develop innovative fire safety strategies using performance-based methodologies where prescriptive codes fall short.
  • Perform technical calculations for egress capacity, building area and height limits, sprinkler hydraulics, and smoke control systems.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, evaluations, and correspondence addressing fire detection, alarm systems, passive and active protection systems, and life safety commissioning.
  • Collaborate with design teams, clients, and regulatory authorities to resolve complex fire safety challenges.
  • Support business development through proposal preparation and client engagement.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a related field, with at least five years of professional experience in each of the following: fire code consulting, suppression and alarm system design, performance-based design and egress modeling, plan review and jurisdictional coordination, and fire and life safety commissioning.

Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent credentialing is preferred. Strong communication skills, technical clarity, and the ability to work independently or within multidisciplinary teams are essential. Prior consulting experience and involvement in business development are advantageous.

Work Environment & Culture

This position supports flexible work models—onsite, hybrid, or remote—for qualified candidates with proven experience and client engagement capabilities. The organization fosters a culture rooted in trust, integrity, inclusion, and professional growth. Safety, resilience, innovation, and data responsibility are central to daily operations.

Equal Opportunity Employer: All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or veteran status.
