Responsibilities
- Build High-Density Healthcare Interfaces: Build complex tools our clinical team relies on to treat patients safely, including dynamic multi-step medical intake engines, high-density provider charting dashboards, and patient-facing applications handling sensitive PHI with perfect state synchronization.
- Master Client-Side Architecture: Design robust, scalable frontend architectures that manage complex state, handle asynchronous data fetching cleanly, and ensure interfaces feel instantaneous even when underlying APIs are slow.
- Collaborate Across the Client Ecosystem: Work closely with mobile engineers to establish shared state patterns, reusable business logic, and a unified architectural standard across all client platforms, including React Native and Expo for mobile applications.
- Champion the User Experience: Deeply care about how patients and providers experience Mochi; sweat the details of the UI and make pragmatic, high-quality design decisions using component systems to measurably improve patient outcomes.
- Own Frontend Reliability: Own frontend deployment pipelines, establish strict performance budgets, and manage client-side observability and error tracking (e.g., Sentry, Datadog) to catch regressions before patients do.
- Build Agentic Workflows: Utilize frontier agentic models to accelerate development and integrate AI capabilities directly into product interfaces to automate clinical operations and scale provider workflows.
Requirements
- 5-7+ years of frontend engineering experience building and operating production React applications that handle real complexity.
- Deep understanding of the React render cycle and ability to orchestrate complex data flows beyond surface-level hooks.
- Experience with state architecture fundamentals and managing complex state in scalable frontend systems.
- Ability to leverage tools like Next.js pragmatically without over-complicating architecture, understanding tradeoffs between server-side rendering, static generation, and client-side fetching.
- Strong product sense and ability to make high-quality design decisions independently while adhering to design systems and brand language.
- Experience using frontier agentic tools (e.g., Codex 5.3, Claude Opus 4.6) to accelerate development and ability to audit, verify, and own AI-generated output.
- Excellent communication skills, low ego, and ability to thrive in cross-functional environments shaped by healthcare regulations, compliance, and patient safety.
- Willingness to work in-person 5 days a week in the San Francisco office.
Nice to Have
- Experience targeting Staff-level impact: demonstrated track record of setting technical direction across teams, navigating deep ambiguity, and leveling up engineers around you.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, React Query, Zustand, or similar modern frontend technologies.
