Shape the future of database systems as a Senior Lead Database Administrator in a fully remote role. You'll lead the design, implementation, and optimization of mission-critical database environments, with a strong focus on MongoDB across self-managed and cloud-hosted deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the development and integration of advanced database solutions across design and production environments.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex database outages and performance issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Design physical database structures from logical models, conduct design reviews, and establish data access strategies.
- Manage MongoDB replica sets, perform rolling patches, and oversee secure installations and configurations.
- Use tools like mongosh, mongodump, mongorestore, and mongosync to maintain data integrity and support replication workflows.
- Assess and implement emerging database technologies, including managed services on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Develop standards, processes, and capacity plans for database deployments, guiding long-term data strategy.
- Collaborate with architecture and infrastructure teams to align database solutions with broader IT initiatives.
- Automate workflows using Terraform, Ansible, and GitLab to improve deployment efficiency and consistency.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field.
- Proven MongoDB expertise across versions 4 through 8, including community edition and Atlas environments.
- Strong command of MongoDB utilities and performance analysis, including index optimization and query profiling.
- Experience with cloud platforms and managed database services such as DocumentDB and CosmosDB.
- Proficiency in automation and infrastructure-as-code tools: Terraform, Ansible, GitLab.
- Ability to obtain government security clearance (GSA suitability).
- Leadership experience in large-scale database operations, with a focus on continuous improvement and cross-team collaboration.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical insights for diverse audiences.
Nice to Have
- Background in Oracle 19c/12c, including RAC, Data Guard, and OEM.
- Experience with MySQL, Cassandra (including Astra), or Couchbase (including Capella).
- Familiarity with Mongo Ops Manager and database migration projects to Atlas.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary ranges from $132,232 to $193,940 depending on location. The role includes short- and long-term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package covering health, life, and lifestyle needs. Work is fully remote within the U.S., supporting flexibility and work-life balance.
