Shape the future of AI-powered design by building robust, intelligent integrations between Canva and major AI platforms. In this role, you'll focus on designing and refining APIs and tools that enable large language models to interact seamlessly with design capabilities, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
What You’ll Do
- Design and refine AI-facing tools and APIs that allow LLMs like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to access and use Canva’s design features reliably
- Optimize system performance by reducing latency and operational costs while maintaining high-quality user outcomes
- Develop evaluation frameworks to measure tool accuracy across different AI platforms, using both fast proxy evaluations and real-world production testing
- Experiment with and implement agent architectures, including orchestration logic and intent-based interfaces, to streamline AI interactions
- Build observable, production-grade systems that monitor how AI assistants use Canva’s tools, identifying failure patterns and driving improvements
- Collaborate with external AI partners and internal teams to align integration strategies with evolving ecosystem needs
- Work across technology boundaries to adapt for behavioral differences in various LLM platforms, ensuring consistent performance at scale
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience deploying and analyzing LLMs in production environments, with deep understanding of tool invocation, failure modes, and reliability improvements
- Strong background in designing evaluation systems—crafting meaningful metrics and pipelines to validate AI behavior at scale
- Experience building APIs or tools specifically for AI agents, with awareness of how naming, structure, and documentation impact model performance
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with machine learning frameworks, along with working knowledge of TypeScript/Node.js and cloud platforms such as AWS or Cloudflare Workers
- Ability to iterate on agent-based systems, including orchestration layers and MCP-style servers
- Comfort working in fast-evolving domains, solving open-ended problems in collaboration with engineering, product, and external partners
