Role OverviewWe are seeking a freelance Senior Props Artist Reviewer to oversee the quality and integration of 3D props created by external vendors. In this role, you will ensure all delivered assets align with the project’s artistic direction, technical standards, and production goals. Your feedback will guide vendors toward consistent, high-quality output, and you’ll play a key part in preparing assets for use in the game engine.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate 3D props—including models, textures, materials, and UV layouts—for visual fidelity and technical correctness.
- Deliver precise, constructive feedback to external teams to ensure compliance with style guides and technical specs.
- Integrate approved props into the real-time engine, verifying proper scale, setup, and performance optimization.
- Work closely with internal art, technical art, and production leads to support a smooth asset pipeline.
- Diagnose and resolve visual or technical issues related to props during review and implementation.
- Document review processes and help refine best practices for props creation and outsourcing workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years in a props art or art review role, preferably with outsourcing experience.
- At least one shipped game title on console, PC, or equivalent platform.
- Proven experience managing vendor deliverables and coordinating with off-site teams.
- Solid grasp of real-time art fundamentals: modeling, texturing, materials, and optimization.
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine or similar real-time environments.
- Hands-on experience with Maya, Blender, Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, and ZBrush.
- Strong communication skills, especially in giving clear, actionable feedback.
- High attention to detail and consistency across large sets of assets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience leading or reviewing outsourced 3D props teams.
- Familiarity with procedural texturing and performance-conscious workflows.
- Working knowledge of version control systems such as Perforce or Git.
- Understanding of performance budgets and optimization strategies for expansive game environments.
