Role Overview
A Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end management of server infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of hardware, software, and related systems. This position ensures the reliability, security, and optimal performance of enterprise environments serving both internal teams and external partners. The role operates within a hybrid work model, with physical presence required in either Fort Myers, FL, or Durham, NC.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Microsoft Active Directory domains, including organizational units, inter-site connectivity, group policies, and domain health.
- Support enterprise servers, network components, desktop systems, and associated applications across geographically dispersed locations.
- Oversee backup operations and generate regular reports on system status and recovery readiness for leadership review.
- Ensure server environments remain secure, available, and performing within defined thresholds, including storage management, antivirus deployment, and email security controls.
- Conduct daily monitoring and capacity planning across servers, storage arrays, and production systems to proactively address performance deviations.
- Collaborate with IT security teams to implement endpoint protection across all servers and workstations.
- Manage patch deployment cycles for servers and establish scalable patching solutions for desktops and laptops.
- Lead system upgrades and rollouts following operational best practices, including research, planning, validation, implementation, and documentation.
- Apply project management principles to define scope, plan timelines, evaluate vendors, and track deliverables for infrastructure initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years managing large, distributed IT environments.
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer, Senior Systems Administrator, or similar role.
- Hands-on expertise with enterprise storage platforms and related certifications.
- Deep understanding of Windows server and desktop operating systems.
- Experience managing multi-domain, multi-site Active Directory infrastructures.
- Familiarity with Azure Active Directory, Microsoft 365 administration, and Azure Portal management.
- Proven ability to configure and support secure remote access solutions.
- Technical proficiency in DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, DFS, and Microsoft clustering for high availability.
- Extensive experience with enterprise backup technologies such as Rubrik, Dell EMC Data Domain, or Backup Exec.
- Working knowledge of storage systems including NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, and Dell EMC Compellent.
- Experience with virtualization platforms like VMware ESX or Hyper-V.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Prior leadership experience or ability to mentor junior team members.
- Microsoft certifications such as MCSE, MCSA, or MCITP; CCNA also valued.
- Background in medical laboratory or healthcare IT environments.
- Hands-on experience with server hardware including Cisco UCS, Dell, HP, and IBM platforms.
- Knowledge of networking equipment from HP and Cisco, including firewall configurations.
- Experience with Citrix XenApp and high-availability system design using Microsoft clustering.
- Familiarity with multiple versions of Windows Server from 2003 through 2019.
Work Environment
This position follows a hybrid work model with primary locations in Fort Myers, FL, and Durham, NC. Engineers are expected to balance on-site and remote responsibilities to support infrastructure needs.
