Canva is hiring a Senior Threat Detection Engineer - Tooling and Automation (ANZ remote)

About the Role

As a Senior Threat Detection Engineer, you will drive the design and implementation of detection capabilities that protect a global platform. You'll own the full lifecycle of detection engineering—from identifying threats to deploying and refining automated responses—ensuring systems remain resilient and responsive.

What You'll Do

  • Lead end-to-end detection initiatives by collaborating with security specialists to model threats and develop effective countermeasures
  • Convert intelligence on emerging threats into reliable, actionable detection rules
  • Apply software engineering principles to detection workflows using version control and CI/CD pipelines
  • Develop SOAR-based automation to streamline triage, investigation, and response tasks
  • Reduce manual effort for security analysts through intelligent workflow design
  • Build and maintain infrastructure for security platforms using code-driven methods like Terraform or Ansible
  • Establish performance benchmarks and monitoring for detection coverage and system reliability
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering and security teams on detection strategies and platform integration

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience designing and tuning detection logic within SIEM, EDR, or SOAR environments
  • Hands-on work with platforms such as Elastic Security, Splunk, SentinelOne, or similar tools
  • Familiarity with cloud environments including AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code workflows
  • Experience supporting incident response through alert triage and on-call duties

Nice to Have

  • Background in threat hunting or intelligence analysis
  • Contributions to public security research or open-source projects
  • Exposure to advanced detection methods such as behavioural analytics, anomaly detection, or machine learning models
  • Experience integrating generative AI into security workflows
