As a SerDes Firmware Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the firmware architecture for advanced high-speed transceivers that combine electrical and photonic technologies. Your work will directly influence the performance, reliability, and efficiency of next-generation communication systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and debug embedded firmware for high-speed SerDes systems operating in both electrical and optical domains.
- Develop firmware control solutions for silicon photonic components such as modulators, photodetectors, lasers, heaters, and tunable optical elements.
- Create firmware interfaces for electrical SerDes PHYs, enabling configuration, monitoring, diagnostics, and real-time adaptation.
- Define and deploy calibration routines, bring-up sequences, and closed-loop control algorithms including thermal tuning, bias optimization, signal integrity management, and link margining.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in electrical, optical, and mixed-signal domains to define control strategies, telemetry needs, and debug capabilities.
- Integrate firmware with test and characterization platforms to support lab validation, production testing, and silicon analysis.
- Support silicon bring-up, debug, and performance optimization across pre-silicon emulation, post-silicon validation, and manufacturing phases.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is required. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience developing robust firmware in semiconductor or high-speed interface environments.
Preferred qualifications include familiarity with physical layer standards such as PCIe and IEEE 802.3, prior industry experience in semiconductor development, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality embedded firmware solutions.
