About the Role

At Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, we are looking for a Sr Engineer I, Data to design, develop, and optimize data-driven solutions that enable robust decision-making. In this role, you will build scalable and secure data architectures while mentoring junior engineers and working within a mission-driven, cross-functional environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and test software applications, contributing expert design concepts and reliable debugging solutions.
  • Collect, analyze, and transform data to deliver robust IT and analytics solutions.
  • Develop scalable, secure, and high-performance database architectures to meet business requirements.
  • Design and document database applications, including interfaces, data transfer mechanisms, and partitions for efficient access.
  • Troubleshoot medium-complexity issues for major software applications and proactively review design alternatives to prevent future problems.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members, providing technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Build strong internal and external partnerships with peers, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and decision-makers.
  • Contribute individual expertise to achieve group objectives and support collaborative project delivery.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or related roles.
  • Proficiency with Python, SQL, Spark, Databricks, and AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL data pipelines.
  • Experience implementing data modeling solutions using relational, dimensional, and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of database architecture testing methodologies, including creating and executing test plans, debugging, and using testing scripts/tools.
  • Familiarity with Big Data file formats such as Parquet and Delta Lake.
  • Experience with Agile development tools, including JIRA and Confluence.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
