Role Overview
Join a leading technology services provider as a Senior Oracle Database Engineer based in Dallas, TX. This contract position plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing enterprise-grade Oracle and SQL server infrastructures. You will be responsible for ensuring system stability, enforcing security standards, and supporting scalable database solutions across complex, distributed environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Oracle and SQL Server deployments to ensure high availability and performance across SAN, virtual, and physical platforms.
- Develop and manage comprehensive documentation for system builds, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Track and manage database inventory to support project planning and client billing requirements.
- Collaborate with vendors including Oracle, Microsoft, and third-party providers to support software lifecycle management and procurement.
- Coordinate maintenance windows, backups, and system updates with internal teams and stakeholders.
- Ensure disaster recovery readiness by supporting backup operations and participating in recovery drills.
- Work closely with network and systems teams to integrate database services into broader IT operations.
- Provide on-call support on a rotating basis to address critical database issues as they arise.
- Support organizational changes such as system acquisitions or decommissioning efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years in enterprise IT environments with exposure to UNIX, Windows, virtualization, and data center operations.
- At least 5 years focused on Oracle database administration in large-scale settings.
- Minimum 3 years managing SQL Server environments at enterprise level.
- Strong grasp of networking protocols including TCP/IP, LDAP, DNS, and SMTP.
- Experience with enterprise storage solutions such as NAS and SAN, along with backup and recovery frameworks.
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms including VMware, Hyper-V, and PolyServe.
- Knowledge of compliance standards such as SOx and PCI DSS as they apply to database systems.
- Proficiency with additional database platforms including DB2, Informix, MySQL, and Ingres, as well as scripting with JCL.
- Advanced skills in UNIX and Windows server administration.
- Microsoft certifications such as MCSE, MCSA, MCP, or MCTS are strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with technical teams and client-facing personnel.
