Role Overview
As a Staff Customer Success Engineer specializing in databases, you will serve as the top-tier technical resource for resolving critical customer challenges involving cloud infrastructure and database systems. You'll work directly with high-impact customers to understand their operational needs, diagnose complex issues, and deliver robust solutions that align with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the final escalation point for intricate, production-level database and infrastructure problems, coordinating responses across Engineering, Product, and Operations teams.
- Design and implement scalable, secure database architectures for large-scale deployments, including high-availability setups, replication models, sharding strategies, and hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
- Provide expert-level support for database technologies including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, Kafka, and OpenSearch, ensuring performance, reliability, and uptime.
- Guide strategic customers as a trusted advisor, building strong technical relationships and translating business requirements into effective system designs.
- Assess existing database and cloud environments to uncover inefficiencies, recommend optimizations, and enforce best practices in scalability, security, and resilience.
- Communicate complex architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders using detailed diagrams and accessible explanations.
- Collaborate with Technical Account Managers, Solution Architects, and Sales to define customer success plans, support migrations, and identify opportunities for technical enablement.
- Lead technical workshops, troubleshooting sessions, and proof-of-concept implementations to help customers overcome challenging cloud and database obstacles.
- Document and share database best practices, migration playbooks, and operational guidelines to support customer adoption and long-term success.
- Channel customer insights back into the product lifecycle, advocating for meaningful platform enhancements and new feature development.
- Mentor junior engineers through coaching, code and design reviews, joint troubleshooting, and career development support.
- Develop and refine support frameworks such as escalation protocols, diagnostic methodologies, automation scripts, and operational standards to strengthen team effectiveness.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including reference architectures, troubleshooting guides, solution blueprints, and internal training materials.
- Lead incident response for major platform or customer-impacting events, managing cross-functional war rooms and driving timely resolution.
- Represent Customer Support in product planning, design reviews, and strategic initiatives to ensure customer needs shape technical direction.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical details clearly to diverse audiences.
- Self-driven and capable of working independently or within collaborative teams.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, or Go to automate database operations, monitoring, and configuration management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Contributions to open-source projects, especially in the database ecosystem (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB) or related tools like Kafka or OpenSearch.
- Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, particularly in multi-cloud or hybrid deployments.
- Active involvement in database or cloud-native technology communities, including conferences, forums, or local meetups.
- Development of tools, plugins, or frameworks that improve database migration processes or operational efficiency.
