As a Staff Machine Learning Scientist, you'll drive independent investigations applying deep learning, statistical modeling, and interpretability methods to complex biological data, including genomics and immunology.
What You’ll Do
- Design and train machine learning models that detect subtle biological shifts associated with disease, emphasizing robust generalization and high accuracy
- Apply and advance techniques in supervised, self-supervised, and contrastive learning frameworks
- Use interpretability tools to uncover potential biological mechanisms behind model predictions
- Collaborate closely with ML engineers and computational biologists to align model development with scalable infrastructure and biological relevance
- Guide model deployment strategies while maintaining scientific rigor and transparency
What We’re Looking For
You have a PhD in a quantitative field and over six years of experience in industry or postdoctoral research, with a proven ability to lead applied machine learning initiatives. Your background includes:
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of models including neural networks, boosting, decision forests, and generalized linear models
- Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, and platforms like Hugging Face
- Familiarity with model tracking tools including MLflow, TensorBoard, or Weights & Biases
- Proficiency in Python or another general-purpose programming language
- Success in cross-disciplinary environments, with clear communication across scientific and engineering domains
Preferred Experience
- Background in computational biology, genomics, or proteomics
- Hands-on work with DNA foundation models or NGS data analysis
- Experience in cloud-based, containerized environments (e.g., Docker on GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Exposure to software engineering practices such as version control, automated testing, and deployment pipelines
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based in Brisbane, California, requiring 2–3 days per week in the office, with remote flexibility available. The role operates within a culture committed to transparency, scientific integrity, and humane innovation.
