As a System Administrator, you will play a key role in maintaining the stability, security, and performance of enterprise-grade data centre systems. Working alongside a large team of technology experts, you'll ensure seamless operation of critical infrastructure supporting major European institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues affecting system performance or availability.
- Deploy and update infrastructure software, including monitoring tools, with careful planning to avoid service interruptions.
- Manage physical data centre components such as servers, enclosures, UPS systems, patch panels, tape libraries, and cabling.
- Perform system upgrades and maintenance tasks while adhering to strict security and operational protocols.
- Monitor system health and respond promptly to alerts, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
Qualifications and Skills
You should hold a university degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, with at least two years of hands-on experience in system administration. Proven familiarity with data centre environments is essential, including practical work with Windows and Linux server platforms.
Required expertise includes virtualization technologies such as VMWare and Hyper-V, along with experience in SAN and NAS storage solutions from vendors like NetApp and EMC. You must also have a solid background in backup systems, server racking, cabling, and hardware integration within data centres.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities are crucial, as is the capacity to work independently while contributing to team objectives.
