Position Overview

Join a dedicated educational team committed to student success by providing specialized instruction to learners with disabilities. This role involves designing and implementing individualized, standards-based lessons that support academic growth in alignment with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver daily lesson plans using the district-adopted curriculum, adapting content to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Regularly assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Instruct students in writing through targeted, curriculum-aligned activities.
  • Maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment in accordance with student behavior guidelines.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including school events and emergency drills.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to coordinate instruction and services.
  • Communicate consistently with parents and guardians about student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Ensure all practices meet federal, state, and local education requirements.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen teaching effectiveness.
  • Complete all duties as outlined by school board policies.

Qualifications

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. A valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in special education—or eligibility for one—is required. Candidates must submit two references tailored to their experience level: cooperating teachers and university supervisors for new graduates, or principals and superintendents for recent educators. Those without recent classroom experience should provide supervisory references from current employers.

Required documentation includes unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a copy of the teaching license, and separate uploads for each application component. All applicants must pass federal and state criminal background checks, a Child Protective Services review, and a tuberculosis screening.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $55,046.62 to $83,594.34. Benefits vary based on employment status and include options for health coverage and retirement planning.
