Role Overview
As a UX Designer, you will lead the evolution of user experiences for desk phones and telephony hardware used by organizations globally. Your work will focus on embedded systems with physical controls and limited display capabilities, where clarity, efficiency, and reliability are essential. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the Eastern or Central time zones of the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop interaction models, task flows, and usability frameworks for firmware and device interfaces.
- Design user-centered experiences for hardware-constrained products with physical buttons and small or touch-based screens.
- Map out intuitive workflows for calling, call transfers, conferencing, voicemail, and other core telephony functions.
- Create user flows, wireframes, icons, graphics, and detailed interaction specifications.
- Document design decisions clearly to support long development and product lifecycle needs.
- Work closely with firmware development teams to ensure accurate implementation of UX designs.
- Align design direction with Product Management to balance user needs with business goals.
- Anticipate edge cases, error conditions, and recovery paths to enhance system resilience.
- Support usability testing initiatives and refine designs based on real-world feedback.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulatory standards.
- Promote consistency, simplicity, and ease of use across the device ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in UX, UI, or interaction design (5+ preferred).
- Proven ability to design for task-driven, workflow-intensive applications.
- Firm grasp of human-computer interaction principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention.
- Willingness to prioritize usability, speed, and reliability over visual complexity when needed.
- Strong communication skills for articulating design rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in tools such as Figma or Sketch.
- Experience working in Agile, cross-functional product teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in telephony, VoIP, or enterprise communication systems.
- Experience designing for embedded systems, hardware interfaces, or non-traditional platforms.
- Familiarity with localization and internationalization requirements.
- Exposure to usability testing or field research in enterprise settings.
Compensation & Benefits
This position offers a salary range of $90,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience and location.
