As a Backend Engineer on the OASIS team within the Music Mission, you'll play a key role in shaping how users discover music through intelligent promotion systems. Your work will focus on designing and maintaining scalable backend services that deliver promotion scores to personalization engines, directly influencing what listeners see in Discovery Mode.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend systems that support large-scale promotion allocation and delivery
- Collaborate with machine learning and data engineering teams to enhance signal quality and system performance
- Own critical infrastructure components, ensuring high reliability, scalability, and observability
- Contribute to architectural decisions that shape the future of Spotify’s discovery ecosystem
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to integrate systems seamlessly into personalization workflows
- Expand your impact into adjacent areas such as data pipelines or ML-integrated services
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience developing backend systems in Java or similar languages
- Strong ownership mindset with a commitment to evolving and maintaining production-critical systems
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, especially with data and personalization specialists
- Curiosity about systems beyond pure backend, including data and machine learning environments
Nice to Have
- Interest in applying AI to improve system intelligence and efficiency
- Exposure to Scala, Python, or workflows involving data and machine learning
- Desire to grow into a T-shaped engineer with broad expertise across backend, data, and ML-adjacent domains
