AccountingDepartment.com Careers is hiring a Remote Assistant Controller to provide high-level support to several Controllers on a wide range of client financial tasks. You will contribute to financial analysis, develop KPIs, maintain reporting dashboards, and ensure compliance with tax regulations, all within a dynamic, multi-client environment.
What You'll Do
- Assist Controllers with month-end and year-end closing procedures, serving as a backup to the Controller team.
- Investigate areas of improvement and recommend solutions for clients as identified by the Controller.
- Maintain and develop client reporting dashboards, including custom KPIs and reports, potentially incorporating external data sources like Profit Cents.
- Research and develop industry-specific KPIs and benchmarks, preparing related commentary.
- Prepare and analyze financial models using sensitivity analysis and other techniques, flagging significant items for the Controller.
- Review and approve various tax forms, such as sales & use, franchise, and occupancy tax.
- Complete annual tax return reconciliations to the accounting records and recommend adjustments.
- Serve as an additional resource for 1099, W-2, and fringe benefit issues.
- Assist external auditors and controllers by providing required documentation for annual audits and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with client tax advisors on relevant issues.
- Assist the Controller with special projects as needed.
- Review and interpret legal documents like sales contracts, leases, and debt agreements for proper accounting treatment.
- Act as an additional resource for the Supervisor team during client transitions.
- Provide feedback to the Controller regarding their direct reports.
- Assist in implementing third-party applications and other accounting-related changes stemming from efficiency reviews or client requests.
- Attend Controller group meetings.
- Assist with reviewing 1099s at year-end as needed.
- Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.

- 7+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and tax regulations.
