UnitedHealth Group / Optum is hiring a Senior Actuarial Analyst

About the Role

As a Senior Actuarial Analyst, you will play a key role in shaping health care strategy through rigorous actuarial analysis and predictive modeling. Your work will directly support Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans, helping to assess financial risk, project costs and revenue, and guide strategic decision-making across the organization.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and manage actuarial models to forecast performance trends and evaluate risk exposure
  • Analyze health care cost drivers and utilization patterns to project future financial outcomes
  • Apply statistical methods to interpret complex data sets, including financial, clinical, and claims information
  • Translate technical findings into clear insights for business leaders and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support planning, pricing, and regulatory compliance initiatives

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field
  • Completion of at least two actuarial exams with active progress toward professional certification
  • Minimum of two years of actuarial experience emphasizing technical modeling and data analysis
  • Proficiency in Excel and SQL for data manipulation and reporting

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in health care finance or insurance analytics
  • Familiarity with SAS for statistical analysis

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid model with office locations in Minneapolis and Washington, D.C., requiring on-site presence at least four days per week for local hires. Remote work is available to eligible candidates across the U.S., subject to company policy. Compensation & Benefits

Base salary ranges from $72,800 to $130,000 annually, with additional components including equity stock purchase options, incentive programs, and a company-matched 401k plan. Comprehensive health benefits, career development resources, and structured performance feedback are also provided.
