La Compagnie mutuelle d’assurance Wawanesa is seeking a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our actuarial group. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, applying actuarial knowledge to solve complex business problems, mentoring junior analysts, and contributing to strategic initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources, assessing its quality.
  • Perform analyses and complete ad-hoc requests with minimal support.
  • Evaluate procedures and processes, recommending alternatives or improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks.
  • Develop new approaches to problem solving and assess their impacts.
  • Identify emerging industry trends and analyze their potential impact.
  • Represent Wawanesa at external events such as universities, actuarial clubs, and industry organizations.
  • Commit to professional development and bring new knowledge to address team gaps.
  • Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, anticipating and raising obstacles in advance.
  • Build trust with teams around the actuarial function, leading some projects from beginning to end, including implementation, training, and documentation.
  • Actively contribute to the mentorship, training, and development of actuarial analysts.
  • Review peer analysis and provide thoughtful feedback on reasonableness, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Develop strong working relationships across teams.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to translate problem-solving methods efficiently to various computer languages.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, finance, and business to insurance problems.
  • Understanding of database systems and how to interpret and extract data from them.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor complexity for the audience.
  • Ability to develop project timelines and handle multiple concurrent assignments proactively.
  • Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to ask effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information.

Nice to Have

  • More than two years of actuarial experience.
  • Working towards an ACAS designation; 4 CAS exams completed.
  • Experience with machine learning modelling or other pricing modelling methods and software.

  • Compensation range: $90,000 - $110,000.
