Your work will center on automation, resilience, and performance, ensuring database environments are scalable, secure, and highly available.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of SQL Server instances, from provisioning and patching to upgrades and decommissioning
- Design and maintain highly available architectures using Failover Clustering, Always On Availability Groups, and standalone instances
- Develop and enforce automation-first practices using PowerShell, T-SQL, and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code with ARM, Bicep, or Terraform to standardize and streamline deployment
- Automate routine operations including backups, restores, monitoring, alerting, and disaster recovery testing
- Drive performance optimization through query tuning, index strategy, and analysis of execution plans and wait statistics
- Proactively identify capacity constraints and performance bottlenecks, implementing solutions before impact occurs
- Enforce security standards including encryption (TDE, TLS, Always Encrypted), auditing, and least-privilege access models
- Support compliance with SOX, ISO 27001, and internal policies through robust logging and configuration controls
- Operate and optimize SQL workloads in Azure, including Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL DB, and SQL Server on IaaS VMs
- Collaborate with engineering teams to guide database architecture and support cloud migration initiatives
- Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to internal standards, documentation, and design reviews
What You Bring
- Proven experience as a Senior SQL Server DBA in production environments with deep knowledge of SQL Server internals and T-SQL
- Strong scripting skills, particularly in PowerShell, and experience integrating database changes into CI/CD pipelines
- Solid understanding of Windows Server and underlying system infrastructure
- Track record in managing high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions at scale
- Familiarity with Azure SQL platforms and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, ARM, or Bicep
- Exposure to DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering practices in data environments
- Experience with monitoring solutions like Azure Monitor, SQL Sentry, Redgate, or Prometheus
