Barclays seeks a mid-level Site Reliability Engineer to join the Quantitative Investment Strategies Technology team. You will be instrumental in improving the reliability, performance, and visibility of business-critical pre-trade platforms. Your work will focus on building the observability stack and implementing actionable monitoring and alerting, collaborating closely with engineers and stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Ensure the availability, performance, and scalability of systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Resolve and analyze system outages, implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
- Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, increasing efficiency and resilience.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance tuning best practices.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate reliability, scalability, and performance best practices into the software lifecycle.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities.
- Lead and supervise a team, guiding professional development and coordinating resources.
- Take responsibility for embedding new policies adopted for risk mitigation.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls related to your work.
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash/Beats).
- Strong understanding of observability and monitoring concepts (metrics, logs, traces, APM).
- Experience with defining and configuring dashboards, alerts, and SLI/SLOs.
- Basic infrastructure-management exposure (capacity planning, performance insights, scaling, monitoring).
Nice to Have
- Experience with DevOps tools: GitLab, TeamCity, CI/CD pipelines.
- Scripting or programming in Python, Java, or C#.
- Basic Linux experience.
- Exposure to additional monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk.
