Vetcove is looking for a Staff Platform Engineer to lead initiatives that improve the reliability, performance, and velocity of our engineering systems. You will own foundational components of our platform, including database architecture, build pipelines, and application dependency management, designing scalable solutions that enhance resilience and developer productivity.
What You'll Do
- Lead major database infrastructure efforts, including version upgrades, designing replication and sharding strategies, and provisioning developer-facing databases.
- Modernize our application stack by proactively identifying outdated dependencies and owning upgrades of key frameworks, libraries, and SDKs.
- Design and evolve CI/CD and QA pipelines, owning the architecture and implementation of continuous delivery systems.
- Contribute directly to production code by writing and reviewing Python code for system upgrades or migrations.
- Mentor engineers and influence technical standards, serving as a go-to resource for high-impact refactors.
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of experience in backend, platform, or infrastructure engineering roles.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience contributing to production applications.
- Deep familiarity with PostgreSQL and managed database systems.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and developer environments.
- Pragmatic about tooling, automation, and systems trade-offs.
- Clear communicator and technical leader, able to drive cross-functional initiatives.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Django, Redis, Postgres and/or sharding/replication patterns.

- Compensation: $115,000/year - $200,000/year (Colorado range: $135,000 - $175,000) + equity.
