Responsibilities
- Implement and uphold data governance policies, standards, and controls aligned with organizational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise-level data governance guidelines and frameworks.
- Engage in governance councils, stewardship groups, and related decision-making committees.
- Report governance priorities, risks, and performance metrics to executive leadership.
- Act as a subject matter expert for oncology and research-focused data domains.
- Understand organizational data requirements and core business workflows.
- Enforce consistent and compliant use of data across departments and systems.
- Champion standardized data definitions, reference data, and best practices in data management.
- Identify and maintain a current list of Critical Data Elements (CDEs), ensuring ownership, lineage tracking, and quality controls.
- Define, manage, and update business metadata, data glossaries, and terminology standards.
- Develop and maintain documentation and classification systems for critical data elements.
- Keep enterprise metadata cataloged and up to date using platforms such as Alation to enhance data discovery.
- Design and manage proactive and reactive data quality rules and validation checks.
- Conduct data profiling and establish business rules tailored to specific data domains.
- Monitor and analyze data quality dashboards and scorecards for performance insights.
- Identify, log, assess, and resolve data quality issues, overseeing correction and cleansing efforts.
- Maintain a centralized repository for data quality issues and track resolution timelines.
- Document full data lineage for key assets, including source-to-target flows and transformations.
- Collaborate with engineering, business intelligence, and architecture teams to verify lineage accuracy and system inventories.
- Support enterprise-wide initiatives to improve data literacy, governance awareness, and responsible data use.
- Develop training content and educational resources on data governance, metadata, and quality practices.
